Sure, world peace is still a long way off — but for a few brief seconds, this pup and her odd new companion provided the world with a precious glimpse of perfect harmony.
Rylee Boland and her French bulldog, Mochi, were relaxing at home in California the other week when a colorful little stranger decided to pay them a visit. A monarch butterfly had landed on their backyard wall to warm his wings in the sun.
Mochi went up to welcome him right away.
Though Mochi is usually a lively pup, she appeared to recognize that the tiny bug would prefer a gentler greeting.
“She was very sweet, and she didn’t want to damage it,” Boland said to The Dodo. “She is really well-behaved and has the sweetest heart.”
In exchange, the butterfly stayed within sniffing distance, presumably feeling that the curious tiny canine did not wish him any harm.
“Both the butterfly and Mochi were so peaceful that I was able to take a lot of photos,” Boland said.
This endearing relationship lasted around 15 minutes before the butterfly flew off. He even momentarily landed on Boland’s hand before continuing on his trip.
The sweet sight that day was made possible by a common sense of generosity and trust – traits in Mochi that the world could always use more of.
Boland, for one, couldn’t help but notice the beauty in Mochi’s time with the butterfly – a time when the world appeared almost perfect.
“It was an incredible experience,” she remarked.
