Homeless One-Eared Pit Bull Removes Ear from His ‘Favorite’ Toy and Makes ‘Best Friend Just Like Him’

Bruno used to live chained up outside, and his ear was torn off when another dog attacked him and he couldn’t run away. But Bruno knows there’s nothing wrong with him, and now he has a best friend just like him to prove it.

There was once a time that this beautiful dog named Bruno must have felt as though he was on the heartbreaking final chapter of a sad life narrative. Although merely a pup, at 1 year old, his destiny appeared fated to be grim.

“Bruno used to live tied up outside,” his rescuers from the SPCA of Wake County, North Carolina, wrote. “And his ear was ripped off when another dog attacked him and he couldn’t run away.”

Yet what seemed like the end for Bruno was, in reality, simply the beginning of a considerably happier narrative.

Although baring external wounds from his upbringing of abuse and neglect, Bruno’s soul proved far more robust than anybody thought.

To some, Bruno could have been “broken.” Nevertheless his heart remained full of hopefulness and love.

To calm Bruno’s emotions as he settled in for an indefinite stay at the shelter, his caretakers provided him a friend with which to pass the time – a plush dog doll. The duo grew inseparable.

Suddenly, Bruno was no longer alone in situation. Yet he immediately saw to ensure that he wasn’t alone in form.

“Bruno tore one of the ears off his beloved stuffed toy – the same ear he’s missing himself,” the shelter wrote. “The staff member who found this couldn’t believe it …”

It was as if to convey that his favorite toy was still lovable despite its “imperfection,” and perhaps someone would see him exactly the same.

“Bruno knows there’s nothing wrong with him, and now he has a best friend just like him to prove it,” the shelter wrote.

If Bruno was actually hoping to convey a message with his relevant tweak to his favorite toy, one thing is for sure – that message was received.

As the SPCA of Wake County blogged about Bruno and his single-eared friend, word began to spread.

And before too long, there came the news that everyone was hoping for. He’d finally found a home.

“[J]ust like that, Bruno has a new dad!!! Of course, his matching stuffie NEEDS to go with him so they can be pals forever,” the shelter wrote in an update. “Bruno’s adopter loves him just the way he is and promises to show Bruno nothing but unconditional love for the rest of his life.”

The misery and tragedy of Bruno’s past will never be erased, of course, but it now stands as a simple prelude to a completely new life tale of happiness and love.
