On a sweltering summer day, a store opens its doors to a stray dog so it may cool down.

Life can be so hard for stray animals. With no house or shelter to go to, they not only have to obtain their own food and water, but they’re entirely exposed to all the weather conditions.

We’ve heard numerous accounts of pets suffering in the severe weather, and the compassionate businesses that opened their doors to keep them warm. But dogs are prone to the intense heat, too — and one one scorching day, one store decided it was the appropriate thing to invite a dog inside to cool off.

It was a hot 104°F day in Mexico, and a local stray dog paid a visit to a local market, where he had been showing up for the preceding several days.

“He has been here the last [few] days,” the store’s employee stated, according to The Dodo. “We assume he was left behind by his owner. He came to us for help.”

“We could only offer him with food, water and some toys from the store that we paid with our money.”

But on this sweltering day, they decided to go even further:

They allowed the dog inside to cool down!

The dog really appeared to appreciate this reprieve from the intense heat: he was so comfortable that he simply flopped down straight on the aisle floor for a sleep.

“We allowed him inside since the weather outdoors is absolutely hell-like,” the cashier stated. “We feel awful for him, but he appears happy about the store.”

And the clerks’ goodwill was contagious: a customer called Adolfo Pazzi Ahumada, who was in the store for some milk, decided to purchase the dog a treat.

“I felt horrible for what the dog had went through,” Adolfo told The Dodo. “But he is now getting the affection he deserves.”

Thank you to this store for opening their doors to this dog! We know this simple act of compassion meant the world to this stray.
